So many things can happen in a month. My past month has been jam packed with instruction and adventure.

After returning from Switzerland I jumped into life on the Ottawa; hanging with old friends, enjoying the long summer days and working on the water. I quite enjoy teaching; there is definitely something rewarding about watching people learn and grow from kayaking.

Instruction began with a couple of days at Liquid Skills, then moving on to spend a week with the Keeners. This week turned out to be a real treat; talk about action, these kids are non-stop. They are thoughtful, full of energy and a pile of fun to hang out with. I even had the pleasure of joining the gang for a trip to Lachine. After the keeners I went on to join another group through Wilderness Tours. They named themselves the ‘Seeners’ or Adult Daycare after learning of the youthful excitement in my previous week. Kudos to my favorite hip replacement kayaker guy!

Rounding out the month I moved cross country to make an appearance on the other side of Canada. My long time friend Chris Ryman and his wife, Andrea own a fantastic shop and kayak school in the Slocan valley; south west of Nelson, BC. This town is a wonderland of things to do! Their shop appropriately named, has something for everyone, and heck the river is just across the street. Feeling lazy… get a shuttle up stream to float the river with family and friends. And if a little more action is your style, head downstream on a nice section of II/III whitewater. I spent a week in this paradise and I can’t say enough about its community and its whitewater. For 5 days I was privy to the company of some of the Slocan valley’s finest ladies (yes, Judy you’ll be a local soon too). We had a blast on the water, chatting in the eddy and pushing limits to the max. In fact I had so much fun I can see myself spending loads more time in the Slocan valley in the future.

Stay tuned for my next BC adventure… including Skook and Tofino… yipppeee
