Women’s Prelims Just finished on rainy Day 2 of World Cup! by Will Richardson | Jan 1, 1970 | Whitewater | 0 comments August 16, 2008 Photos The Rain is coming down in a big way making it cold and wet. It is 54 degrees outside for a high today with the clouds, rain, and wind from the North. At 10:00am there was a 15 minute break with some sun, but then back to the rain again. For the Women’s Prelims today the water didn’t come up any, making the hole still at a perfect level. The heats took all morning and only 10 women get to move on the next round making it a big cut. Only a few opted for entry moves. The women performed pretty well all morning getting some great rides. Fiona Jarvie from Great Britain nailed a beautiful series of carwheel, clean carthweel, and super clean cartwheels without hesitation on her opening, followed by sweet air loops and more. Emily Jackson, the current Junior Women’s World Champion, also did her cartwheel moves before moving on to loops and a McNasty on the right side to take the top honors in the prelims. Adrienne, from the USA, nailed a loop and an airloop on both rides while most of the women were finding the super sticky hole too much to land the loops straight enough to count. It was enough to put her in the third position in prelims, which was very cool. Marlene from France threw a huge second ride after a disapointing first ride to pull in 4th. Ruth Gordon, the current women’s World Champion, missed her major moves on ride 1, but came back and threw down on ride 2 to come in 5th. Dr. Jessie Stone threw the second highest ride of the day on her second ride, making the cut with that single ride alone! He first ride was only 26 point, but she ended up in 8th with just 1 ride. Check out the photos of the results sheets for complete results. I don’t have access to electronic results, sorry! I got to watch the C1 Prelims also and there were a few AWESOME rides that stood out. It will be hard for me to guess top 5, however, so we’ll wait for the official results tonight. Dane went for an aerial entry move and flushed out of the hole and the eddy getting zero on his second ride, which won’t put him in the next round. To add insult to injury, somebody stole his new Ipod from the Van today that I gave him for his birthday. Poor kid is having a rough two days. The Men’s Kayak Quarter Finals will be shortly and I can’t imagine that the water will stay low. I picture a fast rise during the afternoon. In this case being seeded number one is the worst place to be! I hope it manages to hold steady! On the sidelines a police dog training group had a variety of dogs known for aggression out training. Rotweilers, German Shepherds, Pit Bulls, etc. We were daring paddlers to try running across the fields to see if they could make it before being attacked. Nobody took us up on it. This photo is of one of the trainers telling the dog, "good doggie, bite harder doggie." EJ Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
