My name is Patrick Wheat, I was raised in a small town in North east Mississippi. When I was young Fishing was not only a hobby, but a way of life. My grandfather would take me out on his Jon boat on the Tombigbee River. Using only cane poles we would catch our limits of Crappie and Brim. My father loved to catch catfish his method of fishing was with trot lines and baskets, carefully hidden in deeper channels of the river so other anglers couldn’t find them. As for me I preferred Bass I didn’t like to eat them, but I loved to catch them. Most kids wanted to be a fireman, policeman, or astronaut when they grew up. Not me, I wanted to be a professional fisherman. My hero’s were Bill Dance, Roland Martin, and Jimmy Houston. I would watch their shows learning their methods and taking mental notes. I didn’t become a professional Bass fisherman but I continued to fish in hopes of that one fish worthy of hanging on my wall. Every year my family would take a vacation to Corpus Christi, Texas. We would fish for a week and at the end of the week we would announce the winners of our family tournament. This is where I first fished from a Kayak and I loved it. I’m now married to my wonderful wife Dottie and we have two little boys. Several years ago we moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. We enjoy taking our Jackson Krakens offshore or taking our sons out in the Marshes and teaching them how to fish and the importance of coastal conservation. If I’m not working, I’m on the water in my kayak. I would like to thank Jackson Kayaks for making such a quality boat, and for their support.
