NOC Hosts another Great Spring Splash! by Will Richardson | Apr 6, 2005 | Rockers, Whitewater | 0 comments April 6, 2005 Photos I am writing articles out of order, but hey, here it is. The Jackson family, Nick Troutman/Jackson (for now), Chris Emerick, and Stephen Wright all drove the 4 hours from Rock Island to NOC on Friday. It was raining cats and dogs, 2" in 2 hours by my guess. We arrived and it was still 61 degrees. When we woke it was only 35 degrees and snowing! No problem, we ate at River’s End (Veggie Hashbrown delight!), and then spent some time at the NOC outfitters store, meeting kayakers, like yourself, and talking about…Kayaking! Very cool. Then, We loaded up and headed to the Cascades, about 11 miles upstream for a run down that stretch of sweet whitewater. It was REALLY snowing hard and I was not really prepared for the turn in weather, so only had shorts. It is all roadside, so no real issue. The Rocker rocked, while the kids loved their Funs on this run. Stephen and Chris took the kids to their cabin we got for them to play Monopoly. Stephen Wright now has my old digital Rebel camera and I got the new Canon 20D. Here is Stephen’s first day of shooting! On Sunday I got to paddle the Nantahala and met some cool paddlers. I was fortunate enough to be able to lead Karla, who took a class with Ana Levesque on Sat, down the lower part of the river, including the "falls" on her second day in a kayak! Her boyfriend, Will emailed me about helping him with his roll, but somehow in the excitement he didn’t mention it, and I forgot (sorry Will). After paddling, Chris Emerick and I spent some time filming about equipment for the upcoming videos I am making. EJ’s River Running Basics and EJ’s Advanced River Running. On Monday- We hit the Telico at 700cfs (pretty high water). The photos are all from Monday. I do have a few from today that I could put up…. OK look for a couple. 🙂 EJ Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
