More Fun on the Gauley! by Will Richardson | Sep 13, 2006 | 2010 Fun, 2010 Star, Classic Stars, Whitewater | 0 comments October 13, 2006 By Stephen Wright After many days in my 07 Fun, I can say that this boat rocks! It’s the perfect Gauley boat: giving HUGE loops, easy slot moves and other difficult downriver lines, and still able to do splatwheels-kickflips-macho moves-stern squirt, and other downriver play moves. As to sizing for the New Fun, I’m 140lbs and 5’4" which makes the Fun a bit large on me as a playboat. It takes a bit more effort to flatwater cartwheel than the classic allstar, but is substantially easier than the classic fun. It’s ridiculously forgiving downriver, rolls easily, and loops bigger than I ever thought possible. Super comfortable and roomy, though I’m admittedly waiting for the 2Fun for my size to play with. It seems like 160-170 is the best all-around river/play weight. For me, it’s more river-runner, while Jay can still comfortably paddle it at nearly 200lbs and he throws it around like a dedicated playboat. Enjoy the photos from a day on the Gauley with Clay, Jeremy, Brad, Pikey, and others last week. Clay, Brad, and I shot the photos which include the biggest loops I’ve ever gotten on film at Hungry Mother. Now I’m in PA at Jeremy’s house, where he’s been helping me re-chopify my squirt boat for maximum sinkage. Then tonight it will be off to Canada with Pikey for more Ottawa/Lachine action!
