Colorado Joe sends some sweet photos and this article by Will Richardson | Nov 27, 2007 | Rockers, Whitewater | 0 comments By Joe Keck Hey Jackson Nation! Well, the snow has started falling here in the Rockies, which has given me a moment to organize some pictures before my big trip to Ecuador in a couple weeks. These submissions come from two of Colorado’s very finest creeks – Vallecito and the Big South piece of the Cache La Poudre. Vallecito consists of ridiculously happy boof after boof within a confining chiseled gorge. Bring a guide and be prepared to stomp if you drop into undoubtedly one of the best miles of creeking anywhere. Plan on spending a weekend as the crystal waters of the Vallecito run drop out of the Weminuche wilderness right into a fantastic creekside campsite. Perfect Rocker territory! The Big South provides an extended day of creeking through another of Colorado’s pristine woodlands, the Comanche Peak Wilderness. If you’re feeling the love, make sure to fire the Poudre’s Big Three V+ drops – Cool World, Meltdown and Double Trouble. The access gate is frequently not yet open when creekers come to town, so join me next season for a two-day hike in from the headwaters in Rocky Mountain National Park. Hope you enjoy the pictures and happy fall/winter paddling.
