Smith River update and pics by Will Richardson | Nov 25, 2007 | Rockers, Whitewater | 0 comments By Darin McQuoid The Smith River is California’s only completely free-flowing river. Every fork and tributary, all the way to the ocean, has escaped the clutches of dam building and because of its coastal location, moderate temps and lots of rain offer up some stellar winter boating. High water, good scenery, and great friends made for an awesome Thanksgiving week of paddling. Every time I paddle the All-Star it constantly rewards me with an often overlooked aspect; it’s a great river running boat. The mixture of stability, speed, balance and comfort make it a pleasure to paddle, I love the way it handles big water!
