With spring finally upon us, a great weekend was enjoyed by most
Reno/Cali paddlers. Temperatures were in the 70’s everywhere (it’s
gonna be 85 here today!), and those snow-locked runs that have been
waiting to burst have started to deliver the goods.

After a great play day in the Reno whitewater park on friday, it was
time to get back in the creek boats. Jessica, Justin, Brien K, and I
packed-up for a technical tune-up run to the Tobin section of the N.
Feather on Saturday. It was running at high fish flows (350-400
cfs), which made for tons of great moves without a ton of push. We
ran 3 laps in the sunshine–the last run was a no-eddies bomb run,
which was a BLAST!

Sunday brought up the Summit Run of the S. Yuba–beauty at 7,000
feet! Winding through a snowy granite wonderland this run has a
handful of great class 4 rapids with a few class 5 options for those
looking for adrenaline. It’s a fantastic run, which less than an
hour from Reno. I joined Jessica, Trevor, and 3 others for a great
day at perfect water levels. We had a few swims–including an EPIC
beatdown in the hole at the base of the Tea Cups slides–
necessitating a swimmer rope-out and a boat rope-out of the hole. I
had a good line again on the left channel of the "portage" rapid just
above rainbow lodge.

It should be another great week with tons of flow in creeks and the
playpark 🙂
