Darren Bush and I get to paddle All Waters on Badfish Creek just outside Madison WI by Will Richardson | May 27, 2009 | All Water Rec, Recreational/Touring | 0 comments After 3 weeks of cool weather and lots of driving I pulled up to Rutabaga in Madison WI to meet with the owner Darren Bush, for a paddle with the All Waters. Man, that was such a good time. The weather was fantastic, warm and sunny. The night before we paddled, I got to meet Darren’s wife and son, both of whom are really neat people. We had great hand packed burgers and for breakfast some of the best oatmeal I have ever had… STEEL CUT OATS!!! For anyone that has had the opportunity to stay with the Bush family, you know that the hospitality was top notch… The All Waters, seen here, paddle so well in moving flatwater. They are also super sweet in solid III to IV- type of whitewater, but today was all about a gorgeous 150 cfs creek winding through the plains just south of town. We paddled both the All Water 9 and 10, switching out of both to test weights and characteristics. Although the 9 is designed for with a high range of 175lbs, it still paddled me just fine at 185. Darren and I are similarly sized and we commented that although the 9 fits “OK”, the 10 was really nice to paddle at our size. On the high side, we now know that the 10 performs fine up to 275lbs based on someone I had in it just the other day… AWESOME FOR THE BIG GUYS!!! There were amazing birds such as Red Tail Hawks, Herron, and tons of smaller birds I wasn’t familiar with but that sang and sang our whole time on the river. I also saw plenty of fish and some of the prettiest countryside in the US. Afterwards, we stopped and had a old fashion root beer and then it was off to the shop to discuss business. From Darren’s reaction, I think we’ll have All Waters in Madison sometime soon… The All Waters provide something very special. Super comfortable and very playful, but still a great focus on performance handling and ability to carry much more than 1 nights gear. The paddle rest allows one to float hands free for taking great pictures or to just relax from paddling. The retractable spring loaded skeg is the icing on the cake though… Drop that down and you are ready for long straight paddling from a hull design that also allows for sporty eddy hopping when you pull it back up. We have a super strong offering here with the All Waters. You can demo them at your local JK dealer now… Get out and get after it!!!
