The two best one days? by Will Richardson | May 19, 2009 | Whitewater | 0 comments Photos By Darin McQuoid Big Kimshew creek, aptly named, big in every sense. We put on with 11 people in one group, and while the majority wanted to route, we had a few international paddlers that didn’t know the run, so Scott Ligare and I enjoyed a day with them and a slower place on big Kimshew. Unfortunately not too many photos of my other Jackson cohorts due to this, but we all had a good day on the water, glad to get the run in it’s incredibly short three day window of low flows. After take out I was already looking forward to the next day. The South Branch of the Middle Fork Feather is my favorite one day run in the world. Full of 10-20 foot drops, some fun rapids and a generally clean, safe character (relatively) make the South Branch a place I always look forward to enjoying. Plus the nice big clean fifty footer at the end, icing on the cake. It’s always incredibly fun to take people to your favorite places, and earlier in the year I was stoked to take Stephen Wright, Tanya Faux and Seth Dow down the South Branch. When the stars (flows) aligned again, I was more than happy to join up with Stephen Wright and Nick Troutman for my third South Branch run of the year. Just as we snapped our skirts on and were about to push from shore, Andrew Holcombe and Josh Bechtel drove across the bridge with shouts of join to find us there. They quickly geared up and we all put in for another fantastic day on the South Branch. The highlight of the day was getting Nick to throw a blind freewheel off the clean slide to fifteen footer. I can’t say enough good things about this run and will let the photos do the talking from here on out. Darin McQuoid Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
