The Metolius River is spring fed.  We were able to go right to the source to see the river come to life.     I first paddled with CE when they brought their kid’s club to Kelly’s Whitewater Park and then again with their adult classes.  Bend is lucky to have these two enthusiastic kayakers in the community.  Here is an update from Alex and pictures of the crew with their goodies from JK & NRS!  Thanks to you all for making this a great event.  Devon

Leading a Group and Preparing for Whitewater

Current Experiences and Devon Barker collaborated to bring the Bend, Oregon boating community a clinic focusing on being winter whitewater prepared and learning to lead a group.  A dozen students joined in a panel-style discussion that covered everything from what Devon keeps in her dry-bag to how to choose a river appropriate for yourself and your group.  Questions were answered, stories and tips were shared, and there was an abundance of laughter and awesome swag (special thanks to NRS and Jackson Kayak!).

When everyone had absorbed as much knowledge as possible, we loaded the boats and headed to the river.  The CE instructors chose the beautiful Metolius River to give Devon a taste of Central Oregon boating.  The free-flowing Metolius offers a four-mile stretch of wilderness class II-III water.  With 55 degrees, sunshine, and a crew of over a dozen, we couldn’t have asked for a better day of kayaking!
