The Coosa……..not just for rivers by Jonn Graham | Apr 8, 2011 | Coosa | 7 comments Here is fellow central Illinoisan, Andy Kraft enjoying the benefits of the Coosa on a local strip mine lake. I believe this was Andy’s first day in his new Coosa. He reported to me that he “is blown away by the Coosa”. While the Coosa is definitely a great river boat, I think it also has a ton of merit on small ponds and lakes. Way to go Andy! John Graham 7 Comments Jeff on April 23, 2011 at 2:29 pm I bought the Flexi small retractable dog leash and drag chain that was recommended. The hook that on the dog leash does not fit through the eyelets on the Coosa. Does the need to be cut and then the leash line just tied to the drag chain? Seems logical i would have to but don;t want to make a mistake if I am not seeing something? Reply Drew Gregory on May 4, 2011 at 8:14 pm Jeff, yeah man, cut that thing off! Can’t get through without doing it like you said so its gotta be done! Add a caribeaner or a larger clip if you want or just tie straight to the chain. A larger clip will allow you to have multiple pieces of chain that you can switch out depending on water flow, time of year etc. Good luck and continue to have fun in the Coosa! Reply Thomas and Debra Ekvall on June 10, 2011 at 12:30 am Our son is interested in purchasing a Coosa. His biggest concern is how to keep it from turning in circles during windy days. He lives in Kansas City, MO and would be fishing in local lakes. Thanks for any info regarding keeping the Coosa stable in wind. TOM AND DEB Reply Drew Gregory on June 12, 2011 at 5:03 am Tom & Deb, the best thing to do to prevent this is to use the A.) use the seat in the low position. B.) When you get to a good spot, drop your drag chain as it will act as an anchor and keep you in one spot. Lastly, take advantage of the fact that you’ll be in a boat that is small, maneuverable and can get close to the shoreline to fish as there will be less wind there AND you’ll be able to make casts from different angles than the traditional boat anglers, plus keep your lure in the strike zone longer since you can really parallel the bank structure. Reply John Morgy on June 23, 2011 at 9:10 pm I just had my Coosa delivered and caught my 1st bass in less than 15 minutes of trying it out. It is awesome!!! Q: What length/weight of chain and size dog leash (lbs and lenghth) should I get? Thanks! Reply Drew Gregory on July 12, 2011 at 4:42 am On the dog leash, the slot fits the Flexi brand small size (16 ft) perfectly. I zip tie mine to the handle once its in there. As far as size chain usually you just get a size that fits in the chutes there. If its too big it won’t slide under the rear handle and if its too light/small it won’t slow you much. I get about 20-22 inches where it hangs down below the keel (but not beyond it) when it is in the retracted position. By the way, congrats on catching that bass so soon! Makes us feel great that we were able to make your experience in the outdoors better! Reply Keith on April 28, 2012 at 7:48 pm Drag chain tends to snag against the guide “loop” ….on stern of kayak….where the leash ties to the drag chain…when retrieving. Snags on first chain link…at leash point. Mine is 26″ and links are 1 3/8″ across. I wrapped the chain in black duct tape as it looks cool on the blk widow colored kayak. Can’t drag it in all the way. Any suggestions? Thanks, I love it and have only been out twice…got last week. Sweet ride. ks Reply Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
