TRF “River Fun and Safety Fair” by colinkemp | Jul 29, 2012 | Whitewater | 0 comments This past Saturday JK team members Ruth Gordon, Jessica Yurtinus, and myself got to spend our Saturday teaching river safety to the youth of Reno. The river fun and safety fair is hosted by the Truckee River Foundation. Families can sign their kids up in the morning for a class that covers river safety, leave no trace, proper gear and swimming techniques. Every kid that participates in this part of the curriculum walks away with a PFD, helmet, and water shoes free of charge. Ruth and I were both leading groups for the safety class. Kids who graduate from the safety class can then sign up for a body boarding class. Jessica was in charge here. She had everyone surfing #3 in no time at all. By the end of the day the fully volunteer effort put around 200 kids on the water. This was my 4th year participating in this event and I cannot wait for next year.
