A Revolutionary Journey

I spent a very pleasant evening escorting a group of novice kayakers on the Concord River in Concord MA. I met the group of seven at 5PM, and once we’d sorted kayaks, pfd’s and paddles we set off upstream the confluence do the Assabet and Sudbury Rivers which combine to become the Concord River. I was paddling my Journey 13 which allowed me to easily move between the paddlers who were having varying degrees of success making forward progress. A few words of encouragement and a tip or two soon had everyone smiling and moving. It’s been extremely dry here lately and so the rivers have been very low, but fortunately for us a good rain storm the previous day had brought the levels up to a nice passable level. We saw multiple Great Blue Herons and even the back end of a Whitetail deer deciding not to hang around and say hi!
After a quick stop for some cookies and lemonade we paddled back downstream towards the Old North Bridge, yes that Old North Bridge! It’s very cool to be able to paddle in an area which played such an important part in the American Revolution.
Pretty soon our trip was done and we headed back to the put in. All of the guys on the trip asked me about the Journey 13 I was paddling and clearly were keen to try it out, but that will be for another day in the not too distant future.
