World Kayak “Am I Ready for the Gauley yet?” by colinkemp | Sep 2, 2012 | Whitewater | 1 comment Have you ever boated the Gauley river? If not this event is for you. Would you like to paddle this world class river for the first time with some of team JK’s best and brightest? Of course your answer is yes, so what you need to do is send a paddling resume to colin@worldkayak.com and make sure to include your phone number and the section of the Gauley that you have never paddled. Colin will get in touch via phone for a quick interview to help determine if you are ready to join us. Your resume needs to be to Colin no later than the 5th. If you are selected for one of the coveted spots on this year’s trip expect to get final details from Colin on the 6th. Our guided trip will take place on Saturday the 15th of September. This is the Saturday of Gauley festival, so you will be able to experience the biggest river festival in the world after a great day on the river. I have never paddled any part of the Gauley. I was hoping that this would be my first year on the river, but the guys I was going with have bailed. Ive been paddling serious for the past two years. I started paddling in 2008, but only paddled a couple times a year up until 2010. I run my own lines on the upper Ocoee and hit some technical stuff on the middle. I have also paddled the Pigeon, Clear Creek, Nanty, South Sauty in Alabama, Hiwassee, and the Chatooga. Ive got a solid roll that I feel very confident in. Id love to hear back from ya yes or no.
