Travis Stewart from John Glenn Middle School checks in after thier first pool slalom. by colinkemp | Dec 30, 2012 | Whitewater | 0 comments On December 29th the John Glenn Whitewater Kayaking Club held its first pool slalom. With temperatures dipping into the sub zero here in Minnesota, winter is a great time to work on balance and stroke technique in the pool. The student in the club, ages ranging from 10-13 help to host and participated in this fun event. Local paddlers from the Rapids Riders club in Minneapolis came over to lend some help and friendly competition. Our club is growing in its popularity here at school and it is having an impact on students academic and social lives. Thanks to the help of Jackson Kayak, Immersion Research paddling gear and Shred Ready Helmets, for the first time many of these kids feel like they belong to something greater than themselves and are finally good at something in school.
