Wildflowers on Dinkey Creek

One positive about California having a lower than average snow pack is that you get the opportunity to run rivers and creeks in a different season than normal. Often, even if some of our classic rivers have water early in the season, you still can’t get to them because the roads are snowed in.
This year, I ran Dinkey Creek in April. I had previously only run it in June and July. It was an amazing trip as always, but the cherry on top was the wildflowers. There is nothing quite like running waterfalls with hills of stunning poppies on either side. In some places, the poppies were so thick the hills just looked bright orange. I hope everyone gets a chance to paddle a river outside of its normal season. Enjoy and explore! ~Diane Gaydos
