Springtime Specs on Top Water! by teamjk | Apr 21, 2018 | Fishing | 0 comments Springtime in Texas means “Blue Bonnets” (our state flower) popping up on medians of local highways caused by warmer temperatures and rainfall. It also means area fishing will be heating up too! This time of year is prime for throwing your favorite surface walking baits. As fish transition from winter patterns and start to move shallow, they will be searching for shrimp and mullet that the flood tides will bring in. Usually targeting shallow flats with deeper channels nearby, I search for active bait fish and nervous water in the area. There is nothing like seeing the “walk the dog” action of a super spook jr. getting blasted from below by a hungry yellow mouth! Twitch, twitch, twitch……..pause……SPLASH!!! What a rush! Sometimes you will have multiple fish chasing the lure at the same time, almost like they are doing cart wheels over it. Some of the baits I enjoy throwing when the top water bite turns on are. 1. Heddon Super Spook Jr.- I like the Bone/Chartreuse, Baby Trout, and Clown Colors. 2. D.O.A. Lures PT-7- The Pearl and Key Lime colors are my favorites. 3. Rapala Skitter Walk- Bone and Hot Pink are my go-to’s. So grab a few of your favorite top water lures and get out there….Springtime action will be heating up in your area also! – Dustin Nichols Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
