Local Tourney Clubs by Michael Ernst | Sep 17, 2018 | Event Coverage, Fishing, Fishing Tournament, Internationalisation, Tournaments, United States | 0 comments When I got into fishing kayak tournaments 5 years ago, my first tournament was with Kayak Bass Fishing TN, (KBFTN). It is still the one club that I am loyal too and try to fish every event that I can. I have been lucky enough to be very successful over the years and had the honors of being named KBFTN Angler of the Year in 2015. In 2017 I was the runner up. I’m not going to go on and on about how to win tournaments or how you need to do this to catch fish, blah, blah, blah. In fact I am going to talk about this past year, where I’m not going to lie, I don’t even know if I made it in the top twenty overall. It was by far my roughest year. I think 10th place was the best I took all year. But it isn’t about the win. I can tell you that while it can be frustrating to either constantly lose good fish, or not even get the bites, I still wouldn’t rather be doing anything else. I gave it my all, I prefished every location, and I guess it just wasn’t my year. ‘The people that I have met over the years fishing the KBFTN series have been amazing, including making some of my best friends. You show up, give it your all, then head to the check in area and talk with all your buddies about how great or about how not great of a night you had. These clubs are incredibly welcoming to new anglers, whether is it your first time in a kayak or a seasoned veteran. Also there is a youth division at each event and I promise you that every youth participant will get to go home with something and there is no entry fee for them. While the year is over for me, since I didn’t qualify for the state tournament, I cannot wait until next year, and I will be cheering my fellow teammates on at state. Come on out next year, or look in your area for the nearest kayak tournament trail. I promise you it won’t be something you regret whether you get to hold that big check or not.
