My Basic Big Rig HDFD Setup by Dennis Kieselhorst | Mar 11, 2020 | Big Rig, Big Rig HD/FD, Featured Post, Fishing, Fishing Feature, Germany, JAdventures Main Banner | 5 comments My Basic Big Rig HDFD Setup The Big Rig is not without a reason one of Jackson Kayak’s most popular fishing kayaks. The possibility that the Big Rig HD can be converted into the Big Rig FD is awesome! And then you can switch to the Flex Drive E within seconds. A real transformer! These are many reasons why, in addition to the incredible stability, I love this boat so much despite the relatively high weight. Here is some information about what my basic setup from the Big Rig HDFD looks like: Power If I use the Big Rig HDFD with the Flex Drive 3D, then I have the Rebelcell 12V18 AV li-ion battery as a power source for the fish finder. When I use the Flex Drive E, the motor and the fish finder are powered by the Rebelcell 12.35 AV outdoor box (for this you also need the Rebelcell Quick Connect Cable with cigarette lighter plug). The transducer is positioned with a self-made mount in the middle scupper hole. I regularly use the transducer on other kayaks, so the cable from the transducer lies under the seat. https://www.rebel-cell.com/en/index.html Fish Finder The fish finder is attached to the left gear track, on the right gear track is a YakAttack Omega Rod Holder. https://www.yakattack.us/omega-rod-holder-with-track-mounted-locknload-mounting-system-rhm-1001/ Camera I installed the YakAttack DogBone Camera Mount right at the front of the gear track and control the GoPro with voice control. Paddle My paddle is a Bending Branches Angler Pro, which I adjust to a length of 255 cm. By the way: you can also paddle the Big Rig HDFD absolutely well! https://bendingbranches.com/products/angler-pro-plus-fishing-kayak-paddle Behind the seat is my KKrate, which I secure with bungie cords. My landing net is always in the molded in rod holders (Westin W3 Landing Net Size L). Anchoring I have two options for anchoring: In shallow water I use a self-made anchor stick. The Big Rig rod trough is the perfect storage option for this. For deep water I use the Tightline Anchor K5 (secured to YakAttack Vertical Tie Downs). https://www.tightlineanchors.com/online-store/K5-Kayak-Canoe-Anchor-3-5LBS-p117835944 This is my standard setup, I don’t need more for fishing trips. My tackle boxes are under the seat and right behind them a waterproof camera case. Oh yes, there is enough space on the Big Rig HDFD. Can’t wait to hit the water again with this badass transformer! I’d love to see how you’ve mounted it as I’ve just purchased the lowrance for my BigRig this week. Thank you for sharing! Reply Dennis on March 16, 2020 at 8:07 am Hi Tim! Send me an email to dennis@jacksonkayak.com and I’ll send you some photos! Reply Gary Lamy on June 22, 2020 at 5:17 pm Dennis, I’m also interested in how you mounted your fish finder and transducer. I’ve got the 2020 Big Rig FD. I just ordered a Garmin Striker 4 CV with transducer. Looks like the transducer can be mounted under the kayak seat just behind the prop? I’d like to see some pictures. Would it be okay to email you? Reply Dennis Kieselhorst on June 30, 2020 at 7:04 am Hi Gary, send me an email to dkieselhorst@mail.de and I’ll help you!
