Top Ten Reasons to Kayak

  1. The Sound of Silence – Whether your seeking the tranquility of a kayak “glide” exploring the water ways or going into sneaky mode to spot wildlife or catch fish the kayak is super silent.
  2. Boating Benefits – Paddle, pedal or electrified you’re in the fresh air. I chose to paddle for the cardio and overall fitness but just the kayaking activity will promote flexibility, muscle development and core strength.
  3. Fishing Friendly – Equal to or better than any other mode of angling the kayak is unique in the places you can go, the wide varieties of water you can navigate and the adventures available. So many models that offer silence, stability, stealth and safety getting you to areas inaccessible to other water craft.
  4. Go Solo or Join the Crowd – While I have often traveled out in my own, I’ve also enjoyed going in a group. Another option offered by the increasing popularity of plastic boats.
  5. Open to Everyone – With a little instruction or YouTube search you can pick up on the nuances of kayaking, couple that with some on the water instruction and experimentation and you’re ready. Very few limitations exist in terms of any demographic.
  6. Fresh or Salty – If there’s water you can launch and safely kayak. Ocean, brackish salt water options exist as well as the limitless types of freshwater available across the globe.
  7. Techno Geek or Bare Bones – In the ever-increasing world of technology you can go wild or mild….batteries not included. If you’re interested in the minimalist approach push off and go with people power and let your senses guide you to a simple kayak adventure.
  8. Family Fun – Everyone can go and it’s never too soon or too late to start. Length of trip, local waters or vacation destinations are all available to families of all sizes and descriptions.
  9. Pick Some Plastic – kayaks options such a river, white water, pairs paddle or battleship models are all available at the discretion of the potential kayaker. Many reputable dealers (like my favorite Caney Fork Outdoors in Silver Point Tennessee) allow for testing out a kayak and offer valuable advice on “choosing and using” a kayak that fits you, carry kayaking safety equipment , all within your budget and covering essential needs. Most are a one stop shop for accessories all things kayaking and some even carry fishing gear.
  10. Bountiful Benefits – Healthy pastimes, increase in family time as well as togetherness, exploring the water (and every form of wildlife living in and around the water) unique fishing opportunities and four seasons of use (in many parts of the world) are just a few of the pluses to kayaking. Ever trip adds a story and a memory.
