Short and Sweet Large Flow Review

Jackson, kayak, flow, large

Large Flow is an all time favorite Creek Boat. Here is the low down of what makes the Large Flow worth a paddle?

Wide, floaty, glidey, maneuverable, playful, design. Way light with big, loose edges. Wide bow the stays on top of the water without the super banana rocker that some new boats have. Tapered kick rocker stern for quick, aired out boofs. The 28” width doesn’t carry through the whole boat so it has lots of play from the wide base to the rockered side walls. Stern can rocket move off waves and even rocker up for a quick splat . But you can lay on the bow to glide over currents for traditional river running. Turns into eddies quick. Can stop or start easily allowing paddlers to control their speed instead of speeding out of control. Lots of play in this 86 gallon 8’9” river running creek boat.

What to watch out for while paddling the Large Flow?

Large Flow is very maneuverable to the point that I over boof drops if I go full blast. You get lots of kick coming out of drops too with lots of play so be ready to start working that boat. I have to watch and not over perform or turn into things too much. Super nimble for the 28” width. I use a seat pads for extra leverage so that I can get it on edge. The width makes it super floaty so it doesn’t dig into the water and stick to the current. The wider, flatter hull with playboat edges creates lots of glide. It isn’t out of control but rather wants to be controlled as it drifts over features! Definitely not the narrow, edgy sort of boat some may like. And the 8’9” length is plenty fast but definitely not a 9’ creeker ready to win the races.

At 5’10” and just under 200lbs the Large Flow feels like MY kind of creek boat. Having so much fun as if paddling a sporty half slice but with full volume. Best runs ever on the local creeks. Just gliding around catching air.
Will say larger folks could enjoy it for a surf or more playful river runs but may need a creeker like a large Gnarvana for heavy class v.
