This was an epic Rock Island Weekend! Yesterday was a run down the
Upper Caney Fork River with three Dynamic Duos. Clay and David (from
Brazil), Emily and Nick, and dane and I all ran down the 8 mile run along
with some folks from Knoxville. What a great run!

Today we stepped up to Cane Creek in our Heroes, and Nick in his Rocker
(Dane in Side Kick) for a three hour 6 mile run, with only one portage due
to a tree. We got home at 4 pm, super tired and realized that they had 4
spill gates wide open and there was 17,000 CFS running through at Rock
Island! We suited up immediately and headed down to the hole and put in
just below Sieve City (we’ll run that in the morning). A big water lead
into the main hole makes your heart beat, especially when you are lining up
the hole and being propelled to it at high speed. We all surfed it three
times, throwing random tricks and hoping we stay away from the river left
side where it goes into a nasty wall. We headed down to the Upper Brave
Wave which is right in the middle of the river in between the main hole and
Brave Wave. This wave is SICK! The only downside is walking back up for
it, and trying to line it up in the boils on the way in.

Dane, Nick, and I spend two hours doing laps on it getting just about every
move in the book and having so much fun. I had some really long rides and
it isn’t very often I think about getting off of the wave on purpose, but
after a long river run earlier today and a hike in, etc. and doing high
energy laps, I almost peeled off the wave twice after long high energy
rides.

A great dinner, and a glass of wine afterwards, thanks to Kristine and I am
one happy guy!

Thanks to emily for the photos!
