World Cup 2 was held in Augsburg, Germany, on the Eiscanal, a man-made whitewater course built in 1972. The Washing Machine is still the best hole for this type of course and it was built 36 years ago. The feature was awesome, and people had a lot of fun training and competing on it. Let’s focus on the competition…
Today was 100% finals day. The day started with the Junior Women at 10:00am, then the OC1’s, then the C1’s and then a break. At 1pm the Junior Men went, followed by the Senior Women, and finally the Senior Men.
Here are the top 5 in each class. I hope to have an electronic version of the scores up soon that shows 1-76 in the men’s class, for example.
Another VERY important thing to know if you are wondering how people are doing in the world cup is to understand how the three events combine to determine the winners.
Each event gives each athlete an opportunity to earn points. The Points go as follows:
1st=100, 2nd=95, 3rd=90, 4th=85, 5th=80, 6=75, 7th=74, 8th=73, 9th=72 all of the way down to the point where you only get 1 point, and then you simply get 1 point for competing.
Your points from each event are added together and the leader wins the world cup. If there is a tie in points, the Final Event, this weekend coming up in Thun, Switzerland is the tie breaker.
Now to the World Cup 2 results.

I don’t have the rankings for all competitors after World Cup #2 but I have done the math for a few:
Women’s Kayak
1. Emily Jackson: 195 points
2. Ruth Gordon: 185 points
Men’s Kayak
1 Peter Czonka 195 points
2. Dustin Urban: 180 points
3. EJ: 175 points
That is enough for now. When we get the printed list I’ll put it up for you.
We tried to drive to Switzerland, but I was too tired to drive without falling asleep. After a big day like today, I get wiped out, especially after a day like yesterday.
Look for more photos and updates from Stephen Wright! Some of these photos are by Jessica, Stephen’s girlfriend using my camera.
