Jackson Kayaks Launches its Pure River Runner- the ZEN: Promo Video by nicktroutman | Jan 30, 2012 | Featured Post, jacksonkayak.com, JK Team Posts, River Running, Team JK, Video, Whitewater, Zen | 5 comments The much anticipated ZEN is finally here, Jackson Kayak’s first ‘pure’ river running kayak. With some more hull speed, and excellent carving abilities the Zen with make catching eddying and making your moves much easier. The reduced volume in the ends makes it a breeze to catch a wave on your way down the river. While the plaining hull makes it effortless to maneuver and turn on a dime. Check out some action footage and listen to what some people have to say about paddling the boat. Reply Mark Pruitt on July 16, 2012 at 7:25 pm I love this boat!!! Nothing else to say about it. Reply Stefan Carey on December 30, 2014 at 8:57 am Why does the reduced volume in the ends make it a breeze to catch a wave on your way down the river? Reply Clay Wright on January 8, 2015 at 8:18 pm Hey Stefan – the smaller the stern, the deeper it will ride in the foam pile of a wave without rising to drop your bow. Thus catch on the fly or just front-surfing is easier with a smaller stern than with a traditional creek boat that is more likely to spin sideways once it hits the foam pile. I can easily spin on most flat, green waves in the Zen and with a little foam I can still force it around. In the Karma it requires a lot of foam to spin more like a hole and it’s nearly impossible to hold it straight on a steeper wave. Hope this helps!
