Jackson Kayak Trail debuts in Kansas and Missouri by Jason Cassetty | Mar 21, 2023 | Event Coverage, Events, Featured Post, Fishing, Fishing Boats, Fishing Feature, Fishing Reports | 0 comments This past weekend was the last week of winter and boy did Mother Nature remind us to pump the brakes on spring 😂! We had 3 divisions kick off their respective seasons with high winds and freezing temperatures. Starting on Saturday the BIG HILL division in Kansas sent 12 brave soles out on the water to battle the conditions and find some bass and boy did they! Despite the cold anglers posted 44 keepers to the TourneyX.com leaderboard and when the ice melted off the guides it was Daniel Maffei leading the way with an impressive 91” limit anchored by his 19.75” Big Bass winner! In the battle for second, Oklahoma’s Ryan Brooke edged out Missouri’s Dakota Mcbride for the runner up spot! Sunday saw slightly less wind but brutal cold as Kansas continued its season debuts with El Dorado Lake. Once again despite horrible fishing conditions the winner was able to catch and cull repeatedly till they reached an impressive 91”! The man with the plan was Justin Maples of Kansas. He culled 6 times on his way to victory and some valuable Jackson Kayak Classic AOY points! Eyan Curtis got his limit for a second place finish while Jacob Ward didn’t have numbers but definitely had the size and took home Big Bass honors with a 19.75” toad! That same day Stockton Lake kicked off in Missouri and 15 degree air temps greeted the anglers as they ventured out. It would prove to be a struggle to keep gear from freezing up and the bass to open up all day but there is always someone that cracks the code. That man was Jake Pruett who was able to put a limit going 82.25” into his Jackson Knarr anchored by the Big Bass of 18.75” and earned him a well deserved first place finish! Stacy Jordan fished hard and despite loosing some key fish due to frozen guides was able to come home with a solid second place finish. Congratulations to all of the anglers that battled crazy conditions this past weekend and we look forward to seeing what happens this week as we kick off seasons in Texas(Ft.Worth) and Kansas(Perry Lake)!
