My Jackson Coosa X Fly Fishing Set-up by Darrell Olson | Jul 2, 2024 | 2014 Karma Unlimited, Featured Post, Fishing, Fishing Boats, Fishing Feature, Fishing Reports, Fishing Subjects | 0 comments Being a fly-fishing person, this style of fishing allows me to be a minimalist when it comes to kayak fishing. There is no need for a fishing crate as storage under the kayak seat provides satisfactory storage for my fly boxes. However, my Coosa X set-up is a little more complex, or is it? The Coosa X is a clean slate as far as setting up for fishing platform. The factory set-up of the Coosa X allows up to a 4 – 6 rod storage system. Which is a lot but for mine set-up I limit that to a two-fly rod storage system which takes advantage of both rods to lay down parallel using the offset rod butt holder and the rod tip tubes to protect those delicate fly rod tips. The Coosa X comes configured for the installation for a Power Pole Micro-Anchor which I find necessary for stopping the kayak on the flats when searching for redfish. The tank well of this kayak is large enough to have 25qt Orion Cooler or the cooler of your chose. I usually use my small Jackson Cooler to carry any snacks and drinks while on the water. At first the position of the foot pegs being placed on the deck was a concern for fly line management. This has been put aside as they function very similar to the post or spikes on a flats boat. I did transition from keeping my fly boxes from under the seat to purchasing the JK Under Seat Utility Bag. This allows me to store four large fly boxes under the seat and makes retrieving them much easier than trying to feel around to grab the fly box that I need as I might have a box for surface flies, mid-column flies, and flies that might reside on the bottom. This utility bag as small pockets for tippet material and a section on the flap that I can store extra leaders that are accessible right at your arms reach. I have also attached the Multibox behind the seat to keep a knife, pliers, my leader wallet, other tippet materials, and miscellaneous items as well. The Coosa X kayak to me is a very versatile kayak for any angler that wishes to move from conventional fishing to fly fishing, so reach out to your local Jackson Dealer to check out the Coosa X for your needs.
