Blizzard in June in Vail- beautiful outside, but not what the doctor ordered… by Will Richardson | Jun 5, 2005 | Whitewater | 0 comments June 5, 2005 Photos It is 9:41 and I just got back from the whitewater park where Jock Bradley was going to take a photo of the kids and I, in our boating shorts, holding our boats for a magazine cover. This is not what a June kayaking day is supposed to look like, there is snow everywhere and it is coming down hard still! The organizers postponed the in town bicycle sprint race until today because it threatened rain yesterday, oops! The whole event is postponed until at least 2pm today in hopes of clearing up, or at least warming up. It is 33 degrees and it dropped 2 degrees since I woke at 6:30 this morning. I can’t believe we will be competing with pogies, scull caps, and the spectators will be wearing gloves, hats, ski jackets, and there won’t be many around. It was shorts and t-shirts weather earlier in the competition, with girls in bikinis walking around offering samples of different kinds of energy bars and drinks. Well all of that has changed today! I checked the water level and it is slightly higher than yesterday and less retentive, so look for more flushing, but less hitting rocks. I have decided against doing a session this morning because I would be out of dry gear and figure the benefit of another session would be less than the problems of standing around in cold wet gear outside for however long it takes the competition to happen. I am in the RV answering phone messages, but I think I will take the next couple of free hours and watch the movie Aviator. EJ 🙂 Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
