Why Stand Up Fishing? by joey monteleone | Mar 18, 2014 | Big Rig, Fishing, Freshwater, rivers | 1 comment Some folks may wonder why it is desirable to some anglers to stand while fishing. One of the draws for me in selecting a Jackson Big Rig was the ability to sit in two different positions but what really sealed the deal for me was the option to safely stand with a high degree of stability. This is where I feel compelled to say, first wear your PFD (Personal Flotation Device) 100% of the time. Sitting / standing paddling safety first, we are an example to the others who fish or frequent the waters, Back to standing. Dependent on what style of fishing you do, fishing feel type baits, jig, worms, soft plastics and others requires a substantial hook set. Using your legs (standing position) does increase your chances of a solid hook set. Also long distance casting is easier when you can incorporate the strength from your lower torso. I’m a huge fan of the pitching method of casting, nearly impossible to do accurately from a sitting position, seeing your target is also enhanced from an elevated position. Everyone has a different fishing style and interest. That’s why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Loving my Big Rig, stand up and be counted!(and catch fish) 1 Comment Matt on March 22, 2014 at 10:27 pm All good advice, although odd coming from a guy who just got in a kayak for the first time a month ago.
