Changed It Up A Bit by Steve Gibson | Mar 26, 2014 | Cuda, Fishing, Freshwater, United States | 0 comments This past weekend I changed it up a bit from the normal saltwater species I target. A good friend of mine James aka"Crappie Slayer" spends most of the winter months targeting Crappie. He talked me into loading up the kayaks amd heading out to Lake Manatee Fish Camp in Bradenton Florida. It had been years since I have fished at this location. As a matter of fact the last time I fished there was with James when we were still in high school many years ago. We arrived at the launch as the sun was coming up along with many other boaters that had the same idea. James has spent many days on this lake and knew it pretty well. As all the boats went one way we went the other. Not even 100 yards from the ramp we start seeing Crappie rolling on top of the water. My first cast with a pink and black Road Runner I hook up with a nice Crappie. At that time I knew it was going to be a good morning. Although it was cold, foggy and sprinkling most of the morning we continued to stick it out. Both of us caught a variety of species including Sunshine Bass, Crappie, Bluegill and large Channel Catfish using live minnows under a cork. I ended up keeping a few for the dinner table. We had a blast and it was a good change for me. Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
