I know i have reported on the John Glenn Middle School programs here before, and there is good reason for that. This program has grown into an example of what to do from not existing just a few years ago, Here is a trip report and video from their recent spring break trip. Enjoy.

Thanks to help from Jackson Kayak, Immersion Research, Astral Buoyancy and Shred Ready the John Glenn Whitewater Kayak Club successfully took 28 middle school students 13 hours down to the St. Francis River in Missouri for a 7 day paddling trip. Missouri was a refreshing break from the cold, snow and ice in Minnesota. The weather was warm and the river was at a great level for the kids. We did river rescue and swimming rapids the first day and then progressed students into section 1 and 2 of the St. Francis. All of the kids were expected to pass all their class for 2nd trimester and have no office visits to participate in the trip. All those we took would not have had the chance to experience the outdoors, the camaraderie of the group and the thrill of whitewater kayaking if it weren’t for the club and its sponsors. Already the kids who went are asking how they can earn a place in the assistant instructor program, which requires academic, behavioral and leadership excellence. Again to our sponsors, thank you.
