Fishing with Heroes On The Water UK by Sam Baxter | Apr 17, 2014 | Cuda, UK | 0 comments Heroes On The Water is a well known charity in the US helping injured servicemen by taking them kayak fishing, the injured servicemen find it to be an excellent kind of therapy. After seeing this first hand whilst visiting the US, ex-servicemen Paul Fennel of the UK decided to create Heroes On The Water UK in 2013. I’ve supported HOW UK when possible but with Paul being located on the other end of the country I couldn’t volunteer for the fishing sessions, however Paul called me telling me that HOW UK were holding a two day session ‘up north’ at Esthwaite Water (only 2hr drive away). Would I like to help? Didn’t need asking twice! A few weeks later we all met up at Esthwaite Water on a cold winters day, loaded up the kayaks, held the safety talks then we were ready for some fishing. The British Forces Broadcasting Service were here to film a piece on HOW UK so the pressure was on to catch some fish! Unfortunately despite our best efforts the fish just weren’t interested! We tried lures, deadbaiting and dropshotting but just couldn’t tempt a fish. This didn’t matter though, over the two days we all had a great time and we all learnt a lot. It was great to see first hand how Heroes On The Water help injured servicemen and I’m very proud of been part of it. Looking forward to the chance to fish with them again soon 🙂 Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
