SPB River Fest

Last week-end, we had three days to enjoy Easter. Family time ?! Yes, it was for the french freestylers.

From March 31st to April 2nd, a big part of the kayakers family had come together to compete at the French National Freestyle championship. This event was organized by No Pasa Nada, at the Saint Pierre de Bœuf white water course (Espace eaux vives du Pilat Rhodanien), south of Lyon city.

The competition was very well run ! The kayakers and the crowd had a well provided schedule – prepared by the No Pasa Nada Team: freestyle kayak, crêpes, boater cross which you could compete solo or in a Dynamic Duo, local handicrafts stands, kayak shop, barbecue and music. It was nothing else than party in the Saint Pierre de Bœuf Stadium !

On the water, kayakers were fired up. Even if we had rain on Saturday that disturbs the prelims phase, a beautiful sun warmed us up to head into the finals on Sunday ! The playspot where the competition happened was composed of two consecutive holes, both very technical and different. The First one is small and flushy, and the second one is steep and sticky.

All the Athletes were showing off and were throwing all the biggest tricks they could!! All the volunteers, young guns, and all the people who does not kayak were impressed by all the crazy moves we could do in a kayak!!
In France, the rules are easy to understand, you’ve got 2 runs of 45s each and need to make the Top 10 (in the men category), or Top 5 (in cadets, juniors, Senior women and Canoe) to go to the next round!!

More than 140 paddlers loosed their breath spinning, flying, rolling with their kayaks, the scores were flying as well – 1000 points and over ! The judges enjoyed this tight competition, and finally we had the winners : Florentin Abel won the gold in the kids category, Thibaut Adalbert in the men « cadet » K1, Marion Pasquali took the head in K1 junior women, Nicolas Fayol in C1 veteran. Sebastien Devred won both categories with scores over 1200 points : K1 senior men and C1 senior men. For the K1 senior women, Marlène Devillez won her 11th title, she became one more time french national champion with a 780 points score. Tom Dolle did as well, He is still crowned french national champion with a 900 points score. 5 out of the 7 winners were in JK Rockstar!

 

Let’s focus on Boater cross now. Tom Dolle won the solo race, then Nicolas Caussanel and Arthur Bernot won the Dynamic Duo race. For the river stand up paddled competition, Bertrand Lamy-Chapuis reached the top of the podium.

Congratulations to all the athletes, they performed an amazing show ! A huge thank you to every single No past Nada volonteer that put that event together and to the judges involved in our sport for so many years !

Partie Française:

Certains étaient en famille pour ce grand week-end de pâques, c’était pareil pour les freestyleurs Français.

La grande famille des kayakistes s’est donnée rendez-vous du 31 mars au 2 avril pour les Championnats de France de kayak freestyle. Un évènement organisé par le club No Pasa Nada sur le bassin d’Eau Vives de Saint Pierre de Bœuf à coté de Lyon.

Une organisation au top ! Les bénévoles de No Pasa Nada nous ont déroulé un programme chargé d’animations aussi bien pour les kayakistes que pour les spectateurs venus nombreux : Freestyle, crépes, Boarder kayak en solo et en Dynamic Duo, stands d’artisanat local, de fringues de kayak, barbecue et concerts. C’était la fête au bassin de Saint Pierre de Bœuf !

Sur l’eau les kayakistes étaient au « taquet ». Malgré des conditions météorologiques difficiles le samedi, les qualifications ont pu se déroulés sans encombre le dimanche sous un beau soleil ! La compétition s’est déroulée dans le spot composé de deux rouleaux techniques et bien différents. Loop, Cartwheel, Space godzilla, Mc Nasty les athlètes ont déroulé leur figure sous les yeux intrigués et parfois avisés des spectateurs.

En France le règlement est simple, des phases qualificatives pour tous les athlètes par catégories puis les finales avec 10 sélectionnés chez les K1H séniors et 5 athlètes sélectionnés pour les autres catégories (cadet, junior, senior dames et canoé).

Plus de 140 athlètes se sont affrontés, les scores se sont envolés en phases finales comme les athlètes d’ailleurs ! Les juges étaient ravis et après une lutte acharnée c’est finalement Florentin Abel qui remporte l’or en C1 cadet, Thibaut Amalbert en K1 homme cadet, Marion Pasquali chez les K1D junior, Nicolas Fayol en C1 véteran et Romain Planchais chez les K1H vétérans. Sebastien Devred s’offre un doublé doré en canoë et kayak sénior avec des runs à plus de 1200 pts. Chez les dames Sénior Marlène Devillez remporte sont 11ème titre de championne de France avec un run à 780 pts. Tome Dolle conserve également son titre de champion de France avec un run à 900 pts.

En Boarder Solo c’est Tome Dolle qui remporte la première place et en Dynamique duo Arthur Bernot et Niolas Caussanel s’offre l’or. En Stand Up Paddle eaux-vives, Bertand Lamy-Chapuis monte sur la plus haute marche du podium.

Un grand bravo à tous les athlètes pour ce beau spectacle et un grand merci aux bénévoles de No Pasa Nada et aux juges pour leur investissement depuis tant d’année !
