Among the many runs completed this spring, Ben Stookesberry, Chris Korbulic, Chris Gabrielli and myself had the pleasure of completing the first known descent of the North Fork San Joaquin. A four mile run with three miles that fall at 400fpm we knew it was going to be a tough endeavor, and the tight gorges wouldn’t help. We also had six miles of high water on the Middle Fork San Joaquin.

We found the river to be a true gem of boulder gardens, clean water and wilderness scenery. Completing the run in two days we earned it with a three mile hike in, and six mile 4,000′ hike out, but had an epic time on the water and would love to see it again.

For the long winded write-up go to Jefferson State Creeking, and be sure to note Ben’s new work in progress, The 8th River, a site full of quality videos with many more on the way.
