After waking-up to 1.3" of rain in the gauge this
morning, we excitedly scrambled to decide what to do. After initially
leaving to run the Cain Creek/N Chick, we re-checked gauges at the JK
plant and diverted our mission to Caney Fork. It was 9:45 and the Jackson
Kayak boat-building crew had already taken-off for the Piney River (Spring
city)–I love that the guys who build my boats are all just as excited
about the rain as I am! Anyway, this was Dane’s and my first run on Caney
Fork, EJ’s first run at anything other than flood stage, and Clay’s….well,
Clay’s run it a lot and showed us the way down. Caney Fork is a QUALITY
run: 9 miles of continuous class IV boulder rapids with a harder one near
the top. All the photos are of Devil’s Kitchen, the hardest rapid on the
run–I ran first, then shot the photos from a rock in the middle of the
river below. This was a great run for the Super Hero: Easy to keep upright,
easy to turn, easy to boof, and keeps moving away from the drop of you
melt it. It was pretty cool to see the river that fills that lake that
makes our Rock Island playspots. Enjoy the few pics!
