Here is the “official press-release” by Jana Crouse…

On Tuesday, March 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. join Eric (“E.J.”) Jackson (three time world Champion, former Olympian, kayak manufacturer) of Jackson Kayak and his family (wife Kristine, daughter Emily, and son Dane) in an evening of whitewater kayaking and a fundraiser for Soft Power Health at the Arlington Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse located at 2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington, Virginia 22204. This fundraiser will host the D.C. Premier of “Nomads: Wandering Women of the Whitewater Tribe.” This is a film about three amazing women who are making a huge difference in Uganda by utilizing only small steps. Dr. Jessie Stone, an avid kayaker and physician is working with a village in Uganda near the White Nile. In this village Jessie is attempting to teach the villagers about malaria, its cause, how it spreads, and how to stop the spread of malaria through the use of mosquito nets. Jessie has also established a clinic in Uganda through a U.S. based 501(c)(3) organization called Soft Power Health. Emily Jackson, though only 16 years old has contributed much to this village. She has donated more than $11,000 towards the construction of classrooms in the local school and for one doctor’s annual salary at the clinic. Whitney Lonsdale, is the program director for World Class Kayak Academy, a traveling kayak school. With a feeling of responsibility to teach compassion to her students Whitney has brought her school to Uganda to kayak and to build a pottery shed in the local school in this same small village.

Following the video premier will be a question and answer period to answer your questions about malaria, Uganda, and Soft Power Health. Donations will be accepted and will entitle you for a entry into the raffle for door prizes, schwag and a $200 gift certificate provided by Jackson Kayak to be used at Valley Mill Boat.

Jackson Kayak will also be showing this year’s promo video along with EJ’s latest Advanced Playboating DVD.

If you have any questions please contact Colin at Valley Mill (301) 840-7388.

Meanwhile- I hope to see you there!
