A Great Week in the Mid Atlantic by Will Richardson | Apr 17, 2006 | Whitewater | 0 comments By Stephen Wright. Learn more about Stephen. April 17, 2006 After a great weekend of teaching clinics for Valley Mill on the Potomac and attending my good friend James’ wedding, it was time to head to WV for a tour of rivers! Jen, Jeremy Laucks, and I headed to the Big Sandy Creek on Monday, where she was able to run her first waterfall–and she STYLED it! Wonder Falls is a great intro to falling with style. Then we headed down to the New River where recent rains had brought the gorge section up to FUN levels! After a day at Lower Railroad, we ran the gorge with Bryan Kirk, Matt Hamilton, and Tanya Faux–great company, great river, great day! Then the 2 J’s and I drove back north for the mighty Tygart River. Galaway Beach is the name of the game there for a great hole. Awesome for loops, blunts, cartwheels, tricky wus, etc. On Friday, we ran the Cheat, which was at a great level. SO MUCH GOOD PLAY there! Then it was back to the Potomac for the weekend, where we met a very cool 11-year-old boy who was C-1ing a Fun 1! At 65 Lbs, Jordan had a blast at the Maryland chute, and is a great boater! Now I’ve started my long drive out west for a few months of events and paddling for fun! 36 hours of driving to go before Sacramento…My recent truck repairs has yielded another few miles per gallon (which is now up to a whopping 13 mpg!!!). Here’s hoping that Black Dog and I make it!
