Emily and Dane both qualify for Junior Olympics in slalom at the Kern Race. by Will Richardson | Apr 21, 2006 | Whitewater | 0 comments April 21, 2006 Photos Both Emily and Dane raced well for their first race as slalom boat owners. While we have only started training (we did two workouts before the race to learn the 2 stroke upstream.) Both kids have started with a strong base and seem to be able to put the boat where they want it and not struggle with that part. They are missing a whole range of specific skills regarding the gates, including getting the getting the bow under the gates on the way into upstreams. The whole head ducking thing is not normal for them either and they lose their forward speed and usually catch an edge and hit the gate when they try that too. So for them right now it is take a wider line and stay in the middle of the gates. I am looking forward to some warm weather training on the feeder canal in DC or in Atlanta to learn these skills and really get those moves down. Here are some photos by Crystal that was at the race. 🙂 EJ Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
