The Potomac Whitewater Festival has been going on for as long as I have paddled in DC (since 1984) and I am sure way before that. The festival is an incredible gathering of old and new boaters from the biggest paddling city in the USA and from all over the East Coast as well. The best part of the event is the variety of paddling to be done during this awesome weekend. Squirt boating, extreme racing, a giant slalom (S-Turn slalom), attainment race, downriver sprint race, Freestyle event, etc. There are usually two parties worth going to, one on Friday night, and the big one on Saturday night. If you haven’t paddled on the Potomac, shame on you! The river offers everything from class 1- class 5+. Only 12 miles from the Capitol allows for out of town visitors to spend a day or two in the Nation’s capitol and enjoy the Smithsonian, and all of the monuments, memorials, and a great city for a tour.

I would not miss it for the world!
