What a great event with perfect water, great organization, athletes from 20 different countries competing, and everyone in good spirits. Team Jackson Kayak had a great showing with 7 medals out of an available 15, and we had a great time hanging out at the Farm House up here on the Ottawa.

The day started off with Men’s Semi-finals. Moe Kellaher had the highest score of the first two heats with an 80. In the final heat, I bombed out with a 72 on both rides flushing on my righty helix just as I was getting started on my 4th move (flushing at 15 seconds, with 30 seconds left). Jay Kincaid also flushed early, and Clay Wright had a great ride but just fell short on his righty airscrew. Patrick Camblin and Anthony Yapp both choked hard, but Anthony was only one point out with a 79 in his first 25 seconds.

After that the junior men’s semi-finals happened and Dane took it with an 86 point ride, beating me for his first time. I think that finally he has beaten every top athlete in the world at some point. Nick Troutman was only a couple of points out for second.

In the finals it started with Junior women. Flic from England was winning until the final run from Noria from France. Noria had an awesome ride to beat Flic by 6 points, with Katie Kowalski coming in third.

In the Junior Men’s class finals: Nick tore it up on his second ride and made it clear that he is the man to beat! Sam from New Zealand with dreadlocks and all, had a sick second ride to come in second, and Dane had a sweet, but short second ride to come in third in the junior men’s class.

In the C1 Class- Guilliam was winning after first rides, from Canada, but then Marc from France jumped ahead of him. Joe Stumpfel, and Seth Chappell were tied for third. Then on the third ride, Dane had a sick ride throwing a huge clean back pan am, airscrew, and more to get in the 3rd position, where it stuck! Dane took 3rd in Men’s C1!!!!

In the Women’s Pro Class- Ruth Gordon who destroyed the competition in prelims, ended up with a low first ride. Tanya Faux had a huge second ride to put her comfortably in the lead and Emily was in third. Then after second rides, Fionna Garvie from England had a huge 32 point ride to take the second position with Ruth in 4th and Tanya Shuman in 5th. After the 3rd rides the standings stayed the same.

In the men’s pro class it was Moe from Ireland throwing down a big first ride to take the lead. In the second ride Bryan Kirk from USA had a great ride to take the lead until Stephen Wright hit the wave and destroyed it, putting him in the lead with 117 points! In the 3rd runs Peter Czonka had a huge ride to put him in the third position.
