World Cup #3 is underway with Junior men’s prelims today! by Will Richardson | Sep 15, 2006 | Whitewater | 0 comments Today was a practice day and then the junior prelims kicked off tonight at 5:30pm-7pm. Great music, announcing by Sharky, Corey Volt, and EJ, perfect weather, and water made for a great start. Jackson Kayak staff did most of the work to prepare for the event and they did an awesome job, of course! The competition was fun to watch with some big rides and the results were 5 junior boys going to finals from 4 different countries! But first, it was awesome to have so many people come to Rock Island, my home, for the first time. My Japanese friends, Mario from Costa Rica, etc.. How easy is the hole to learn? Well, it was world cup finals jitters, and not much practice time which was frustrating for many. The bottom line for this spot is that it takes a little time to set moves up and when newcomers want the moves to come swift and easy, that doesn’t happen. It is just too big and bouncy. One second you are running down the pile for a big move and before you hit the green you get an explosion of water that throws you off balance. With that said it is super retentive so it is easy to stay in and try again!
