Hey EJ!

The last several months have been absolutely insain! …some of the toughest months of school I’ve been through… With the stress of exams and finals and all my responsibilities finally winding down for the holidays, it was time for me to wind down too…or to at least try! Winding down this time was an unusually tough task for me and Sam both. So with escape and adventure and a bit of relaxation on our minds, we took off with my family to one of our favorite towns… Nederland, CO! (Just uphill/upstream from Boulder, CO).

The trip started out great, snowboarding with Sam, my younger brother Chris, and teaching his girlfriend Meghan how to snowboard! With only 25% of the expert slopes open, the coming snow was welcome with more than just open arms and huge grins! We kept boarding through the storm while the canyon road to boulder and I-70 were shut down, stopping only to rest our legs and for the occasional gusts of strong snowy winds and near white-outs on top of the mountain… When the storm was going strong, I was boarding a double black glade with my brother in 2 ft. of fresh powder in the Corona Bowl! Most people either left the resort when the road closings began or couldn’t make it up the road to the mountain… so we almost had all the fresh powder to ourselves! It dumped 2 ft of fresh snow on us that day!

The day after the storm, we had between 2 and 3 feet of powder on the mountain top with deeper drifts in the glades. While others were stuck in the airports and towns, we were having some of the best days of snowboarding we could ask for with ALL the expert terrain open and the various double black glades full of fresh powder!!! I finally got to completely escape from everything for a while and all the stresses of school and responsibility aside, weaving through the trees and finally spending some more quality time with my family! AMAZING trip as this years Christmas present from my parents!!! We drove all night and made it back home this morning now getting ready for the Christmas dinners and festivities… The "Blizzard of 2006" as the news was calling it, was a GREAT time to be a snowboarder in CO! Hopefully everyone else made it back to their homes or destinations safely 🙂 So many good times and so many grins up on the mountains though!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Boyd & Sam 🙂
