This years’ Memphis Whitewater Creek Week was a huge success with lots of paddlers driving up to the Cumberland Plateau from all over the place, but mostly from Memphis, to Pickett State Park in search of great times and praying for more water! The water has been lacking in this Southeast drought, but just in time for Creek Week the rains came in and more than doubled the flow on the Big South Fork and Clear Creek. Then we were blessed with a sharp rise on the Tellico just in time for Sunday before driving back home to Memphis!

Memphis Whitewater is just a group of paddlers and friends all coping together, here in Memphis, TN. Long drives from any whitewater, it consists of some of the most dedicated paddlers in the Southeast. Trips leave from memphis every weekend and sometimes during the week to catch whatever is running in Arkansas, MO, Alabama, TN, and NC. With absolutely no real organization, no dues, and no officers, Memphis Whitewater has it’s own website (thanks to the Madapple, Brad Payne) at http://www.Memphiswhitewater.com, over 450 active members and close paddling friends, ACA Instructors, class V kayakers, and good all-round fun paddlers!!!

Every year Memphis Whitewater Hosts "Creek Week" on the Cumberland Plateau and every years it’s more and more fun!

Aside from the variety of whitewater trips organized and lead during the 4 day stay at Pickett State Park and the amazing food provided by the Salomon family, one of the highlights is the kayak raffle held every year with ALL procedes going to American Whitewater! For the past 2 years, Jackson Kayak has donated the Jackson Kayak of Choice as the grand prize of the raffle for American Whitewater.

This year, the Jackson Kayak Raffle raised $1247 for American Whitewater!!!! The winner of the Raffle was Memphis Whitewater paddler Phil Lutey and his wife, who’s getting her brand new Jackson Kayak of Choice fresh from the factory!!!

This is one of the most fun events of the years because it’s like a good whitewater family! It’s one of the best groups to spend time with even when the water’s low! Check out the pics!!!
