After driving 8000 kilometers across México, USA and into Canada, Rafa and his buddy Pancho arrived to the Ottawa valley. Having checked the level at the put-in at Mc´Coys, the boys figured that the river was unexpectedly high, very high, They drove directly to The Lorne instead, to find out that the epic Buseater wave was at it´s prime.

As Joel Kowalski told me, It had taken 5 days of outrageous downpour to raise the flows, from 2 up to 17 in the gauge. This unexpected surprise, bond to the uncertainty of its duration, made a feature that is usually packed with boaters from all over the world holding up to 30 people at a time in a line up, one of the best 3 playwaves in the world a spot to be enjoyed for a week only by some locals and other lucky mexicans.

Soon I was on the wave and couldn´t even believe I was surfing this thing. I had to miss it for World´s, because of a back injury that took place in the filming of Hotel Charlie vol II. This fenomenal surprise made up for all the time I had to stay off the water to recover. We had one of the favorites weeks in my life After every meal each day, we were forced to go back for another session because we knew it could be the last. By the time the level dropped and the wave was gone, we were glad because I don´t think our bodies could have taken the beating any longer.

For me, it was a great welcome-back party to playboating. I had been creeking and doing expeditions for the past whole year, staying almost completely away from my playboat. But the truth is that the sport that we pratice is to be enjoyed thouroughly, by mixing the big waves with the big drops. I am happy to be back in my Star, and very pleased by the new 2007 features.
