Howdy EJ – Wanted to send in an update to let everyone know we are having a
super fun time paddling in Missoula, Montana. We have this new ice kicker
built off the river bank. It is a 35 foot river bank drop in transition to
a four foot kicker. I’m catching about 6 feet of height and about 12 feet
of distance. The landing is in about 2 feet of water, so you have to stick
it. It is one of the most fun things, I’ve ever done in a kayak! We built
the kicker behind Edge of the World paddle shop on the south side of the
Clark Fork River. It is located about 100 yards up river from Brennan’s
wave. You can do all sorts of moves off the jump, (air screws, 360’s, clean
blunts, tail grabs, toss paddle to method grab)- so much fun! So anyway we
can session the jump and then head down to the wave (which is also sick
right now). The river bank is full of ice, so it’s channeling all the water
into Brennan’s making the feature sick for moves like Phoenix Monkeys and
McNasties. Anyway people think we are crazy for paddling in the winter.
All I can say is, your crazy if you’re not paddling. Winter is possibly my
favorite time of year to paddle! Here’s a few photos, so far -There will be
more to come, for the jump seems to be getting bigger and better every day!
