As I finished up working with the Cascade School District with my Dare to Kayak program I was asked to meet with NPR about the proposal for a whitewater park in Cascade.

I was working with the students in Cascade through a grant from New Belgium Brewery to educate students about the whitewater parks and the opportunities they will have once one is built in their community, and to encourage them to get outside and enjoy Idaho instead of falling into drug use.

Here’s what two students wrote to me.

“Thank you for coming and showing us your presentation for Dare to Kayak. I really enjoyed being able to sit in one of your kayaks. I learned that you can do more in a kayak than just float down a river.”

“…It taught me how much fun not doing drugs can be. I will always remember the cartwheels and front flips. When we get a whitewater park I want to learn how to kayak.”

Until the spring!
