Colorado Foam Boat Championships

Each year Dane organizes the Foam Boat Championships on “Salida Creek” next to the boat ramp. It starts with a trip to the hardware store to get boat making materials so that kids who don’t have a foam boat can make one. We give one hour for kids to make their best race boat and their best freestyle kayak. The event is heavily sponsored with both cash and product sponsors. This year we gave out Costa Del Mar backpacks, shirts, Jackson Kayak gear, and cash.

The mass start, “Extreme” race is not for the weak at heart as only about 50% of the paddlers finish the course without getting pinned or eddied out.

The Freestyle event is a single ride, 30 seconds in the hole, doing your best tricks. Dane killed it with his special All-Star design he used last year and re-made this year. He withdrew from the competition as he felt bad taking the money and prizes for that event.
