I was fortunate enough to join team JK paddlers Darin McQuoid and
John McConville yesterday to run a California single day classic: the
Upper Middle Cosumnes. This stretch was awesome–TONS of granite
bedrock slides with boulder moves and 5 or 6 get-your-heart-pumping
bigger drops. This was John’s first west coast (and Cali) run, and
he hadn’t paddled in a few months–but he nailed all his lines and
had a blast. Darin had run this stretch twice before and was kind
enough to show us down and lead most rapids. It was a great sunny
day in a stunningly beautiful place with good friends–I left with a
big smile on my face. Enjoy the photos from Darin, who is one of the
best whitewater photographers alive. John will probably send-in some
video from our run soon. It’s good to be back to the west coast–I’m
having fun splitting my time between enjoying Cali creeks and
enjoying the Reno whitewater park to build freestyle skills.
