Hearing the name Deadman’s Alley conjours up visions of buccanears and pirate ships, not a nice big granite set of drops. Triple Drop is now the more common, and generic name for a rapid on the East Fork Kaweah that was once known as Deadman’s Alley. On all my previous sojourns into the East Fork Kaweah, out water levels were on the high end. This makes the rest of the run much better, but Deadman’s Alley ends up with a hole that pulls back in from over twenty feet away, so each time we were forced to make the portage. Returning in ’09 with Devin Knight, Ryan Knight and Chris Korbulic, cold weather held he flows down, and there was no question about out desire to finally run this choice piece of Cali granite – Darin
