So we all know how amazing the Irish are!!! We’ll not so much, but we do have a little to offer from our modest little island in the way of white-water kayaking. although we are a small country with a little or no substantial elevation there are a number of classic low water creeks dotted around the country. In particular, the Clare Glens located about 3 hours from Dublin, which is Irelands capital city. This one suited me as when I was kayaking at my hardest while living in Ireland, I was studying in Dublin. As I was studying marketing it meant there were little or no hours per week and as a bunch of kayakers you could pick up and go at the drop of a hat. This flexibility is paramount to having a good paddling season as out rivers flash flood and the prime levels could dissipate within a few hours.

The Clare Glens is located just outside Limerick city, one of the largest collection of paddy’s next to Dublin, and is just of one of the main routes in Ireland. This pool-drop river is unlike any other river we have at home due to its continuity and level of 4/5 grade rapids. The drops range from 8 to 20 feet and can change drastically with the variation in water level. The run lasts between 1 and 4 hours depending on your ability, and there are tales of weekend warriors starting at dawn and taking out at dusk. If you find yourself in Ireland weather it be on a sight seeing, surf or kayaking tour be sure to stop by on your way into Limerick City and I promise you will not be disappointed. I have attached a few detailed links as to river description and location. Feel free to blast any questions my way via my website www.davecrerar.blogspot.com
